If we do not forgive others or ourselves, what happens to our being? We hold onto negative feelings, and it is unhealthy. Life is not perfect, and sometimes, life is not easy, but we do have the ability to choose how we will behave. Forgiveness can be a tough concept for some people to accept or utilize in their lives. We can forgive, or we can harbor feelings that will do nothing, but make us miserable. The choice is always ours. Sometimes forgiving takes time. Sometimes we need to set healthy boundaries to work through things until we have come up with a conscious decision for the right path we must take.
How can containing hurt benefit you? How will you react to the situation? How do you wish to feel?
A Buddhist Prayer of Forgiveness
If I have harmed anyone in any way either knowingly or unknowingly through my own confusions, I ask for their forgiveness.
If anyone has harmed me in any way either knowingly or unknowingly through their own confusions, I forgive them.
And if there is a situation I am not yet ready to forgive I forgive myself for that.
For all the ways that I harm myself, negate, doubt, belittle myself, judge, or be unkind to myself through my own confusions I forgive myself.
