Motivational Connection
"Believe in yourself, because I do."
Motivational Board
Also called a Vision Board, Visual Explorer, Cretativity Collage, or Treasure Map is really quite simple. You can make it as simplistic or elaborate as you wish. The idea is to express yourself on a board (typically a poster board) with images and anything else you can think of that portrays what you wish to become or do with your life. It also portrays ideas like where you want to live, positive affiramations that lift you up, changes that are occuring or you wish to occur in your life. The ideas are endless. Orginally when I learned of this concept to organize my life, I learned it as a Vision Board. My take on this concept is a Motivational Board, hence the title. You can make a Motivational Board for an aspect of your life you need focus on. It can be a reminder to you of where you wish to personally be in the future. For example, my board I created and is pictured below is about my future and a reminder to me of my personal goals. One the left there is my life coaching business reminder and on the right side of the board, I am reminded of my goal to complete my degree as a Marriage and Family Therapist. My board is surrounded by pictures of quotes. Positive quotes to keep me grounded when life becomes stressful. Portions of my board remind me of my love for nature, the ocean, and how I need to visit these places often to also keep me grounded. As far as I am concerned, there is no better way to refocus and regroup yourself when things are crazy with every day life, than to visit and take a walk or hike in nature. I have yet to see someone say that nature did not boost their mood. The moss on my board represents the green of nature and trees. I have flowers on my board as well. Again, this is something important to me. In the spring and summer months, I spend a lot of time planting flower pots and attending to my yard. Being in the dirt is comforting to me. Planting flowers and watching them grow is glorious beyond measure. I have old buttons on my board. You may ask, "Why old buttons?" This is to represent my love for old things and the richness of history old things represent. The center of my board has the word, "Mindfulness" on it. Many boards will say to have your own picture as the center of the board and this is okay too. I chose the word mindfulness to remind me to live each day as it comes, don't worry over trivial stuff, things that are not in my control, to not be aphrehensive of the future, and to love unconditionally.
YOUR board is personal, make it that way. You can cut pictures from old magazines you are not using anymore (Recycling product that are just sitting and taking up space (this is a good reason to get arid of clutter). There are many supplies you can use from your home. For the most part, the only items I purchased for this Motivational Board was the poster board and some new postive-word stickers from the craft store.
Sit down and ponder over what you want your Motivational Board to express, what you need to be reminded of, and what your vision is. This is important. Be with yourself in a quiet place and think of what it is you want to be reminded of when you look to your board. This can also be done in a group setting as a fun activity to share. The ideas and possibilities are endless. The main idea to a Motivational Board is to give you positive motivation on whatever it is you wish to express.
